As I travelled through East Yorkshire on my way to Hull I was introduced to a hidden gem that I simply have to tell you about! Drewton’s is a farm shop, deli and restaurant, it’s part of the Drewton’s Estate in South Cave near Brough and it’s foodie heaven!
Drewton’s work with over 140 local suppliers and the cheerful staff are happy to tell you about the origin of any product on the shelves. From the honey, which is made by the hard-working bees on the Drewton Estate, to the fresh butchers counter where 100% of the meat is from Yorkshire.
The restaurant was really busy when I was there with many diners choosing to sit outside enjoying the panoramic views of the unspoilt countryside. I ate inside as I wanted to soak up the atmosphere of the farm shop and I opted for an omelette from the extensive menu. Although I have to say, I did have food envy when I saw the person next to me tucking in to a massive homemade steak pie, it looked delicious!
Thankfully the pies were also available to take away from the deli, which was heaving with gastronomic delights from homemade cakes to Yorkshire cheeses. My basket weighed a ton by the time I’d finished and I was also pleasantly surprised at the prices too. I’ve come to expect fancy farm shops like this one to be quite overpriced but at Drewton’s they are happy to put their prices alongside those of a well-known supermarket on a big chalk board so you can see for yourself that you’re getting great value!
If you like to know where you food is sourced and you want it packed with flavour and prepared with passion then head for Drewton’s. There’ll be a warm welcome waiting for you and the surroundings are second to none. You don’t even have to leave, if I wasn’t moving on to Hull I would have quite happily rented one of the cottages on the estate and stayed in foodie heaven forever!
