With its Roman and Viking heritage, world class museums, stylish shopping and jam-packed events programme, York has never been short of things to see and do! But just for good measure it recently added another one to its list: Chocolate – York’s Sweet Story.
The clue is in the name really. This unique new attraction takes you on a mouthwatering journey to discover the city’s relationship with chocolate and confectionery. There’s plenty of tasting along the way too, much joy!
My guide Ellie was bursting with passion and enthusiasm as she told the whole story from bean to bar. Could it be that this girl loves chocolate as much I do?
The interactive tour was like nothing I had experienced before. I never would have guessed that behind the cool cafe and quirky gift shop you can see from the street, lies a maze of mysterious rooms waiting to surprise you!
I don’t want to say too much as hopefully you’ll get to experience York’s Sweet Story for yourself, but don’t miss my favourite room, the gallery. There’s more to those paintings than meets the eye…!
Also keep an eye out for head chocolatier Andrew Thwaite. He’s an extremely talented guy who as well as teaching me how to hand dip truffles, knocked up this little chocolate tribute to the Olympic flame…
I did ask for a bite but Andrew wanted to save it for a photo opportunity with the real Olympic torch when it passed by.
As you can see Andrew got his wish! What else do you think he could make out of chocolate? I suggested a camper van, life size of course!

We think he should make our Regent Farm First School chocolate logo.
I wish he could make a life size person, maybe Kelsey in her photo.
